What Will Be, Will Be
If I haven't told you already, Nick and I have started house hunting for our own home.....in St. Louis. Of course we would love for it to be in Cayman instead, but that time will come. I wanted to look in areas close to my work without actually being in West Port. I had started looking in U City, Central West End, and Richmond Heights. Nick said he wanted to look at The Hill area, which I was leery to do because it was farther away than I wanted to be from work, and I figured everything would be too expensive. Then I did some searches in the zip codes that make up The Hill. And was I surprised! I immediately fell in love with what I was finding around the Botanical Gardens/Tower Grove Park. Yes, it would be about 10 more minutes of driving and 3-4 more exits down 40 than I wanted to be, but the neighborhoods and the character of the homes hooked me. Before I could even email my friend, Lynne, to see if she would agree to be our agent, we found one home we drove by to take a look at the outside. This is that house-
Brick and stone exterior, privacy fence, two car garage, four bedroom, wood floors, fire place....too good to be true right? Right. It had a contract on it the day I found it.
So...we change our frown into a smile and keep looking. We made a list of houses in the area we liked that were up for sale and took a drive-by tour of them. And then we fell in love with this-
I know, you can't tell much from that picture, but let me tell you, we only saw the outside, but it was everything, well almost everything we were looking for. Two story brick, four bedroom, two bath, wood floors, a balcony over the front door, and a two story deck on the back. We could tell from the outside that this one would need a lot of work, but we don't mind that at all. Nick and I are both willing to put some blood/sweat/tears into the renovation of a gem like this one. Yes, it needed a good deal of TLC, but we were willing to give it that. Too good to be true? Yes. Were we really lucky enough to find something we both wanted to badly with just a week of looking? No. The house was sold when we got a hold of the realtor.
Nick keeps telling me not to become emotionally attached to anything while we are looking, but I know he could already see us in that house just as much as I could. I am just wondering why are houses still listed for sale on sites when they are already sold? That can seriously mess with someone's emotions!
We're both pretty sad about this last one being gone before we could even get a good look at the inside. I'm surprised at how draining our first week of house hunting has been....with two disappointments to start off with. We both know the right one will come along. Right? Tell me that's right.
